Clean the wound
Carefully and gently clean the wound using clean water, normal saline or diluted antiseptic. Remove blood and all superficially embedded objects eg grass, dirt, gravel from the wound and the surrounding skin.
Apply antiseptic
Ensure it is within the 'use by date'
Follow instructions on the container for use, what type of wound to use it on and any guidelines/or precautions.
Apply dressing
When choosing a dressing consider the following factors
Location of wound eg hand, elbow, head
Type of wound eg blister, graze, cut
Size of the area involved
What activity the athlete will do after the dressing is applied

Control the bleeding
Rest the injured part
Apply direct pressure over the wound, in the case of an imbedded object apply padding aroung object first
Elevate the injured part if possible
Clean the wound

Apply dressing
Apply a non adherent absorbent dressing
Apply a bandage to hold a dressing and apply pressure to wound
