Asthma

Ever wondered what it feels like in the initial stages of an asthma attack?

This simple exercise will give you an idea

CAUTION: DO NOT attempt this activity if you suffer from asthma or are unwell.

You’ll need

  • a drinking straw
What to do

What to do

  • stand up
  • place the drinking straw in your mouth
  • with one hand pinch your nose (so you can’t breath through it)
  • with the other hand slightly squeeze the straw (to restrict the amount of air that can pass through it)
  • jog on the spot
  • you are only allowed to breathe through the straw
  • sit down as soon as you feel uncomfortable

What sorts of things did you notice?

  • uncomfortable
  • scary
  • breathlessness
  • chest tightness
  • dizzy

These are the initial stages of what it feels like to suffer from an asthma attack. Unless asthma sufferers receive their blue/grey puffers to relieve their symptoms then the situation can get very serious.
